Carol has been involved in publishing for 17 years and is experienced in all areas of the publication process – as a book editor, journalist, word coach, writing for websites, copywriting, chief subeditor,
editor, managing editor, project manager and publisher.
As Associate Publisher at Custom Media, News Magazines (a division of News Limited), Carol was responsible for a broad range of custom titles for more than eight years. Her responsibilities included account management, overseeing the key design and editorial functions as well as ensuring all aspects of the publication process meet the highest standards. This also included managing a team of contractors in both design and editorial positions.
During a three-month contract with Longueville Media this year, book editing and managing the flow of book publication from inception to print (and ebook creation), including the quotation process, were some of her key responsibilities. This also included involvement with government accounts. She is currently working as a contractor and freelancer.
Carol has been a publisher and editor of a range of publications across a variety of genres, including managing and editing a number of book titles for Focus Publishing. Some of her other work has included Microsoft’s Communiqué magazine, founding editor of 4Square Media’s Smarthouse magazine, Clayton Utz’s publication Partnership, Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s Offshore Yachting magazine, Space Furniture’s More Space, Fitness First’s magazine entitled First and Subaru’s flagship publication Symmetry along with Myer’s Childrenswear and Fashion Book catalogues for 2007 and 2008. Carol was also editor and associate publisher of the consumer title Lifestyle Pools + outdoor design magazine, Australia’s longest running premier pools title.
She has also been one of the judges of the prestigious Sun Microsystems IT Journalist of the Year Awards (The Lizzies) for two years running. She is also a judge for the ‘Best Magazine’ Category for the 2013 awards. Carol has also been on the review board for Australia Post’s publication Branding Guidelines 2008 and Australia Post’s Customer Publishing 2009/2010 edition.
