Testimonials

From October 2005 until December 2011 Carol D’Costa was the Associate Publisher for Subaru’s Symmetry magazine, which has an audience of over 120,000 Subaru owners. For just over two of these years, I had the pleasure of working with Carol, liaising with her on virtually a daily basis. This involved every element of the magazine: story content ideas, photography shoots, budgets, layout and design, proofing, advertising, etc.. What impressed me most about Carol was her attention to detail – not only in relation to her exceptional editorial skills, but her constant follow up of every aspect of the magazine so that nothing was ever forgotten or left to the last minute. It was these organisational skills and her tight reporting of weekly tasks that made my job a lot easier and meant that production of each issue flowed seamlessly.

Carol was always accommodating to our varying needs. Having her work in partnership with us and her ability to give our relationship so much care and attention was much appreciated. Carol was indeed an asset to our company.

From 2008 through to 2010, Carol D’Costa was the publisher of more space magazine, a role that included overseeing four issues and ensuring that timelines, budgets and communication always ran smoothly between the groups – Space Furniture, the editorial team (in Australia and overseas) and her own publishing team at News Magazines. Carol is one of the best publishers I have worked with. She is incredibly efficient, a great communicator and was a good support for the more space team. Her ability to juggle both financial and creative issues while keeping every issue to deadline was crucial. Carol always provided Space with a very professional service and was a great person to work with.

“I have worked with Carol directly for the past six years and can honestly say that she is a wonderfully nurturing boss who pays meticulous attention to detail, is always even tempered and works extremely hard to ensure that every publication she oversees is of the highest possible quality. As well as being a great colleague, Carol is a caring, thoughtful and gracious friend.”

“I have had the pleasure of working with Carol D’Costa for the past six years and during that time she has become one of my greatest colleagues and mentors. As freelance editor of Lifestyle Pools + outdoor design magazine, I report directly to Carol throughout the entire editorial process, from content planning and subbing right through to final stages of production.
Throughout my 20 years in the publishing industry, I have never met anyone with so much talent, integrity and diplomacy. Carol is a constant source of support and inspiration to everyone around her, and she has an uncanny ability to remain her usual gracious self amid prolonged periods of stress and pressure.
Carol has played a pivotal role in furthering my career, both as a writer and magazine editor and I only hope I have the good fortune to continue our collaboration well into the future.

“Carol has been the best thing that has happened to my writing. Working with an experienced editor with broad genre and style knowledge has lifted my game and my manuscript to a new level. Carol brings patience, empathy, strategy and clear direction to her interactions with writers. She is an essential asset in a writer’s toolkit.”
